About The National Marine Aquarium The National Marine Aquarium is a fantastic all weather indoor attraction, the aquarium is situated on Plymouths barbican and over looks the harbour.
Upon entering the building it seems very under whelming and you start wondering is this really worth the entrance fee.
There are two routes you can take to explore the aquarium, we choose to start in the coffee shop, after we finished our refreshments we started to explore, so we wandered along to the first of many tanks, the first tank didn’t have any fish, it was like an explorer tank with demonstration mini submarines, this was quite interesting.
After seeing this you wander along to the next round of tanks, this time there were marine creatures in the various tanks situated around the walls and a centre tank for you to watch the sea life in. I believe that all these creatures were locally caught making this even more special.
At this point after listening to the talk about the fish, we wandered along to the next room, upon entering this room you start wandering down a slope noticing the sea creature models hanging from the ceiling, when you approach the bottom of this slope you’ll notice probably the biggest fish tank that you’ve ever seen. This room is quite something else. I won’t say any more or it will spoil it for your visit, but I will say it just got better and better.
This is just a taster of what is on offer in the aquarium, so to find out more you’ll have to visit the National Marine Aquarium for your self, don’t be put off by the building or the cost, if you appreciate marine life then it is well worth a visit.
This is a truly wonderful day out for all the family.
