Knightshayes Court

Knightshayes Court

About Knightshayes Court
Knightshayes Courts is just outside of Tiverton on the A396 near Bolham, the house is a splendid Victorian gothic mansion, within the grounds are the spectacular celebrated 'Garden in the Wood'. During the summer months the gardens are a breathtaking array of colour which spreads into the surrounding woodlands.

John Heathcoat who moved to Tiverton in 1816, commissioned gothic enthusiastic architect William Burges to design and build a new house in 1869, he was responsible for a truly remarkable house with extraordinary “medieval” romantic interior. This is the house that we see to this day over looking the panoramic views of the Knightshayes estate.

The Heathcoat family lived in the house for over 100 years until 1972, during this time the house had a few alterations as time dictated. Since the house has been in the care of The National Trust they have lovingly looked after it and have strived to bring the house back to it original appearance, by working from old drawings and photographs that have survived throughout the years.

The house sits splendidly in the grounds and gardens with some fantastic garden/woodland walks, you can explore the water lily pond, the newly restored kitchen garden or the vast gardens and woodlands, all just waiting to be explored.

If you are looking for something to do and like exploring times gone by, then this is a splendid example with breathtaking gardens and woodland walks. This really is worth the day to explore.
