Hello and welcome to my website, Discovering Devon. As the title suggests, this site is all about helping you discover what Devon has to offer. For me, it means a chance to relive some of the wonderful times I’ve spent in this delightful west of England county.

I’ve lived in the North Devon town of Barnstaple all my life and I’m often surprised at how many locals don’t fully appreciate the beautiful part of United Kingdom that we live in.

As a child, I travelled all over Devon and visited most of its many attractions. Now I’m grown-up and have my own family but, like other busy working folks, I’ve found myself taking things for granted and overlooking the beauty and great sights around me.

I’ve decided this cannot continue! By creating this website, I’ll be opening my eyes again and I’ll have the opportunity to show off some of what Devon has to offer. With my family, I’ll be visiting many of the best sights and attractions and no doubt reliving some of my childhood memories in the process.

Devon is a truly beautiful part of the country with breathtaking rural landscapes and rugged coastal scenery. It has modern "human-scale" cities, with excellent shopping and historical places to visit, and some of the best stretches of golden sandy beaches in the UK.

So, whether you are looking for a beach to top up your tan, or a challenging walk through the countryside, or for quality souvenirs to take home, you’ll find it here. If you are looking for somewhere different to spend your holidays and fancy a change from going abroad, come to Devon. You won’t regret it.
