About Exmoor Zoo Exmoor Zoo is on the A399 near Bratton Fleming. You can reach the Zoo from the A361 (The North Devon link road) by following the brown tourist signs.
The zoo covers an area of 12 acres of beautiful countryside. It is home to over 200 exotic species, from cheetahs to tortoises, spiders to the zoos famous Humboldt Penguins. The zoo is constantly evolving with new exhibits and animals added every year. There is always something new to see.
As well as being a tourist attraction, the zoo is involved in international conservation programs. It participates in over 25 International, European and National Animal Breeding Programs. As part of these programs, they exchange animals with zoos all over the world, this helps to ensure the survival and future of many species struggling to survive in the wild.
The zoo is a superb place to visit and caters for everybody. Through out the park are plenty of picnic areas and benches to sit and enjoy the surroundings, so it doesn’t have to be an expensive day out. There are hot beverages on offer in the African Café that only opened a couple of years ago. This area also houses a gift shop for any souvenirs of the day that you may like.
Through out the day there is always something to see and do. You can watch and help feed the animals, and there are talks and touch sessions on the grassed area just outside of the café. Whilst we were visiting, they did a snake and spider talk and holding session. You didn’t have to hold the creatures but if you were brave enough then you could, this was rather scary, especially when you see the size of the spiders fangs, but my family all survived holding the spider, even my wife who is terrified of them.
The employees who work at the zoo are always very helpful and friendly. If you are interested in a particular animal and someone is on hand to help, then they will help and answer any questions you may have.
Exmoor Zoo is a great day out for all the family, and is one that I like to visit at least once a year with my family, as we enjoy it so much especially to see what new things are on offer.
