About Escot Park Escot Park is a family fun day out that is situated near Ottery St. Mary just outside of Exeter. The 220 acres of woodlands encompass a restaurant, picnic areas, woodland walks and fun play areas for the children.
Escot Park is a place for everybody who loves wildlife and loves nature. Upon entering we were given a clear map of the site and a letter boxing challenge, although this did cost us an extra £1. The idea behind the letter boxing was to solve clues and find rubber stamps that were dotted around the park. This turned out to be a good way of seeing the complete park. The down side was that some of the rubber stamps were missing.
We started our day by getting lost in the beech tree maze, after spending ages finding the centre we then realized that there was a letter box stamp hidden in the maze, which took us ages to find. After escaping from the maze we wandered around the woodlands and saw some of the animals.
During the day there was a chance to meet the birds of prey, during this session they used a beautiful owl that you could hold if you were brave enough, after this handler of the bird gave a flying demonstration with a commentary about the birds.
After watching the birds of prey display we went and saw the wetlands natural pond, around the wetlands is a wooden foot path, this area is a haven for wildlife and pond life. Through the middle of the wetlands is a mud trail that you can walk through, if you decided to go via the mud trail then you will get completely caked in lovely deep smelly mud.
We found our day at Escot Park really enjoyable and well worth a visit.
